The Celebrating Merudarjis:
Our ancestors in erstwhile Hyderabad state were engaged in tailoring and were fondly referred to as 'Darji' in Urdu and 'Meru' in Telugu. After the state reorganisation, we got dispersed in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. Highly regarded by the defence establishment, who engaged us for tailoring, we traversed the country along with regular troops and established small colonies called Chawnees. We are Hindus with deep-rooted Shaiva and Vaishnava traditions. In Maharashtra, we are better known as Simpi Kshatriya.
